“Italian Support to Afghan Microfinance and Enterprises “ISAME 9309, with its component “Targeting the Ultra Poor’ (TUP), assists 1725 women, in rural areas of the Herat Province, and their families, who are in an extreme vulnerability situation, to overcome extreme poverty. The project works to assist these women, and their families, to access health care, decent housing and education through training in the fields of health, human rights, information and by imparting technical skills to create the capacity to initiate a small business. The beneficiaries are provided, after an adequate period of training, with farm implements, cows, goats and sheep to start income generating activities so that they can develop their micro-enterprise in the livestock industry, in agricultural production and in the dairy sector. An important step, in the process of overcoming extreme poverty, is their joining to interest groups linked to microfinance institutions in Herat. Other components of the project are Microfinance and Support to Small and Medium Enterprises. These components of ISAME, which takes place in the province of Herat, involves micro and small entrepreneurs, 27% of them are women, in the sectors of services, trade, manufacturing, agriculture and livestock. So far almost 4000, loans from an amount of 100 Euros till 20,000. Euros have been disbursed. The project is implemented by MISFA (Microfinance Investment Support Facility For Afghanistan) in partnership with FINCA and OXUS, two microfinance institutions and the Afghan NGO CoAR (Coordination of Afghan Relief) for the TUP component.
