Handover ceremony of the Diagnostic Center and of the Breast Cancer Screening Department at the Esteqlal Hospital

The Handover Ceremony of the Diagnostic Center and of the Breast Cancer Screening Department at the Esteqlal Hospital in Kabul was held on 14th December at the presence of Minister of Public Health Ferozuddin Feroz, the Italian Ambassador Roberto Cantone, the Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (IADC) Office in Kabul Rosario Centola, and the Health Experts Dr. Arif Oryakhail and Eng. Marino Martin. The official ceremony was chaired by the Health Advisor Fawzia Alam, who read a message on behalf of the First Lady Rula Ghani, the Chairman of the Parliament Health Commission, Members of the Afghan Parliament, and the hospital staff.
The facility was realized due to 3.021.450 Euros contribution of the IADC in the framework of a broader project for the strengthening of the provincial health systems of Kabul and Herat by supporting the National Programs BPHS (Basic Package Health Service) and EPHS (Essential Package Hospital Service). The project also provided equipment for the laboratories, electro-medical equipment for the Diagnostic Centre (laparoscopy, endoscopy and colonoscopy, mammography, echocardiography) and training for 50 medical and paramedical staff.
The Minister of Public Health thanked the Italian government for its continued support in order to strengthen the Afghan health system through direct support to public health. The Italian Ambassador and the Director of the IADC Kabul Office in their respective speeches emphasized that the support of the public health represents an Italian long-standing priority intervention in the country. Since 2001, Italy has indeed guaranteed nearly 23 million Euros for the implementation of health programs in the provinces of Baghlan, Badghis, Herat, Kabul and Wardak.
In addition, Ambassador Cantone, the Director Centola and the Minister of Public Health Ferozuddin Feroz had the opportunity to witness the completion of the new parts of the hospital.
