Humanitarian Aid

Since 2002 Italy is providing humanitarian aid in Afghanistan and, after 2004, is focusing on Western Region, particularly Herat Province.
From 2014 the conflict is growing in intensity and geographic scope increasing impact on already vulnerable population who is facing high levels of malnutrition, lack of health services, huge number of conflict displacements and increasing number of returnees from Pakistan and Iran in a country where more than 70% of the population live in chronic poverty.
In 2016-17 the newborn AICS (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) continues to provide humanitarian assistance to conflict and disaster-affected most vulnerable communities in Herat Province.
Linking relief to rehabilitation and development, the ongoing 1 million Euro Program is providing integrated – food security, WASH, Health – treatment to maternal and child malnutrition and strengthening the resilience to recurrent natural hazards through community based approach.
The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation is implementing activities both directly and through the Italian NGOs CESVI, INTERSOS in partnership with GVC, benefiting more than 30.000 people in Herat City, Injil District, Jabrayel Area, Adraskan, Koskhi Konha e Gulran.
